If you are a beginner in the realm of networking, just like me, then there is a high chance that you are feeling very confused about which course and certifications you should start with. This is why I have ranked the top 5 networking courses and certifications for beginners like you.

I have completed all of these courses beforehand, so you do not need to worry about which course you should choose. The prerequisite for all of these courses is to have at least a basic knowledge of using computers and browse the internet independently.

As you will see throughout this article, two certification exams are very popular for beginners-

  1. CompTIA Network+ (N10-007) Certification
  2. Cisco CCNA (200-301) Certification

The domains for both of these exams are almost similar. But in the Cisco CCNA exam, the topics are a little bit more sophisticated.

I have written a separate in-depth full review on The Complete Networking Fundamentals by Udemy, CompTIA Network+ Full Course and Practice Exam by Udemy, and Prepare For The Cisco CCNA Learning Path by LinkedIn Learning. You may want to check them out.

Why You Should Enroll in This Networking Course

  • The course contains online simulations, so it was easy for me to visualize in your mind what happens inside the system
  • Good visualizations are used. As a result, I understood the topics easily
  • Plenty of cheat sheets are given throughout the course, which will help me in the long run

Personal Review

By completing this course designed by David Bombal, you’ll be almost fully prepared for the Cisco CCNA 200-301 certification exam. This course offers extensive discussions on almost all the topics that might appear in the CCNA 200-301 exam.

You should know that the course is a little bit old. The instructor will mention the previous CCNA exam systems but don’t get bothered by them because there isn’t too much difference between the previous and the new Cisco CCNA exam systems.

Throughout the whole course, the instructor used simulation software for you to have a clear idea about what is going on inside the systems

The visualizations are nice, everything is taught very extensively, plenty of cheat sheets are given, quizzes are assigned after completion of each topic, and most importantly, real-life examples are used for your better understanding of the topics.

The main flaws of this course are that in some parts of this course, the contents are unorganized, some topics are repeated multiple times, the instructor did too much advertising of his other courses, and most importantly, the course is old

Although the course is old, it won’t matter because Cisco CCNA 200-301 exam domains haven’t changed much.

I have reviewed The Complete Networking Fundamentals Course for you extensively to decide whether the course is worth it or not for you. Spoiler alert, the course is pretty good!

Personal Review

After completing the “Total ComptTIA Netwoek+ Certification (N10-007)” course designed by Mike Meyer and Total Seminars, I was amazed how the instructor taught everything in such a simplified manner. During the whole course, not once did I feel bored.

If you are a total beginner in the networking realm and want to take your first step in becoming a network engineer, this will be a great course for you to begin with. After completing this course, you will learn everything you need for the CompTIA Network+ certification exams.

The instructor has broken down every section of the course in multiple short videos so that you won’t feel bored or anything. The instructor has a great sense of humor! You will see him giving many humorous statements during the course.

Although having so many positive sides, there are some negative sides to this course too. Yes, the instructor gives real-life examples to teach the topic but sometimes doesn’t give a specific definition. You will have no problem understanding the topic, but if you are asked about the topic in your exam, you might not be able to give a straightforward answer.

The sound quality of this course is not always stable. Sometimes the sound is too low and sometimes too high. So you have to watch out for that.

Some errors remained uncorrected, although many people suggested some corrections.

Apart from these cons, overall the course is great!

Personal Review

The CompTIA Network+ (N10-007) Full Course & Practice exam designed by Jason Dion and Dion Training Solutions is a great course for beginners interested in getting the CompTIA Network+ certification.

Though the course isn’t as long as the previous one, it doesn’t lack any information. Unnecessary information is strictly avoided in this course, so none of your time will be wasted.

Throughout the course, the instructor taught everything very descriptively, explained complex topics very easily, used real-life examples, and provided study guides.

There are some opposing sides to this course. Throughout the whole course, the instructor gave only the essential information. Some exam topics were untouched.

In this course, the instructor included a practice exam which is a good thing, but there were questions from uncovered topics in that exam, which was very confusing and irritating.

I have written a separate full review of the CompTIA Network+ Full Course & Practice exam for you to have better information on this course. Another spoiler alert, the courses are excellent.

Personal Review

This is a learning path designed by Linkedin Learning and the instructor Greg Sowell. There are a total of three courses throughout the whole learning path. In each course, there are two chapters, and after each chapter, there are chapter quizzes

Throughout the whole course, the instructor will teach you to do everything with command lines. The course isn’t as long as the previous courses mentioned in this list, but if you have a minimal amount of time left but want to get the gist of everything, this is the one.

The bad things about this course are that the instructor did not use any real-life examples, nor did he use any simulation apps, and the course is too short.

Neil covers a large amount of material in a very non intimidating way. The lessons are just enough in depth but not too deep to bore and send you down a rabbit-hole. The labs are excellent because it truly tests what you've covered in each section. It's not just some BS lab to make you 'feel' like you know the material. Also, he really does respond very fast to any questions! Great class!

- Dean Hawryschuk

Personal Review

In my honest opinion the Cisco CCNA 200-301 - The Complete Guide to Getting Certified course designed by Neil Anderson is a great course for getting prepared for the Cisco CCNA (200-301) certification exam.

The instructor has explained all the topics in detail, especially the labs using the Cisco Packet Tracer. The instructor showed all the functionalities of the Cisco Packet Tracer app elaborately.

The whole course is very nicely structured. Neil has dug deep into the topics but in the right amount. You won’t feel bored while watching the video lectures that he prepared.

The lab materials are downloadable and preconfigured to such a level that even a beginner like me had no issue completing the tasks at hand.

The downsides of this course are a poor use of pointers, no discussion on new technologies such as Wifi 6, some videos were just plain reading out slides, and most importantly, the last section being rushed.

The last section of this course contains an overwhelming amount of information, but it was hard to catch up with the instructor.

If you make a scoreboard of this course’s positive and negative sides, the positive side will win.

Conclusion

To be a successful network engineer, you also need to have certifications aside from being skilled in this sector. The certifications mentioned in this article are just the first step.

All the courses that I’ve mentioned here are best sellers on their respective platforms, so you should not have any doubt about the quality of these courses. Having flaws is not a terrible thing. What you have to decide is whether those flaws will affect your learning style or not.
